Congenital anomalies of the great vessels

In the region of the aortic arch

The following main forms can be observed:

-Persistent ductus arteriosus. The ductus arteriosus remains open.
-Aortic isthmus stenosis (coarctation of the aorta). It can lead to an interruption of the aortic arch.
-Double arch of the aorta.
-Right arch of the aorta. The aortic arch is right-sided instead of left-sided.

-Retro-oesophageal right subclavian artery. The right subclavian artery leaves the aorta beneath the left subclavian artery, and passes behind the oesophagus.
