Blood supply
The arm and leg are each supplied by an axial artery, originating from the 7th cervical and 5th lumbar intersegmental arteries respectively (Vessels and circulation). During development, the blood vessels are transformed according to changing needs. In the arm, the brachial, subclavian, axillary and anterior interosseous arteries develop from the axial artery. In the leg, there are the lower gluteal, the ischiadic and popliteal (proximal part) arteries as well as the distal part of the peroneal artery.
