Female external genitalia

The pelvic part of the urogenital sinus gives rise to the whole urethra. With the descent of the bladder neck, the uterovaginal canal (ending of the unified paramesonephric ducts) is shifted more caudally. The vagina also grows caudally. Both the vagina and the urethra finally terminate separately in the opened part of the sinus, ventral to the urorectal septum. The labia majora (from the genital swellings) come together behind the vaginal orifice. The vestibule of the vagina (vestibulum vaginae) is delimited laterally by the labia minora (from the urethral folds), ventrally by the clitoris, and dorsally by the vestibular fossa. The urethral folds come together in front of the clitoris and form the prepuce of the clitoris (preputium clitoridis).
