Teaching text  11: Genital system  23: Broad ligament

The two paramesonephric ducts are enclosed in peritoneal folds. Caudally, the two ducts join in the middle and the folds fuse together to form a transversally disposed septum, from which the broad ligament (lig. latum) arises. Ventral to the broad ligament is the vesico-uterine pouch (excavatio vesico-uterina), and dorsal to it is the recto-uterine pouch (excavatio recto-uterina).
