Development in females

In female embryos, no hormones have been found to determine the genital pathways of the embryo. The mesonephric duct as well as a major part of the mesonephric corpuscules degenerate. Remnants of the caudal parts of the mesonephric duct may remain in the lateral uterine and vaginal wall as the ducts of Gartner (duct of the epoophoron).
