Human Embryology and Teratology

Introduction  7: Links, terms, abbreviations

Significant terms, technical terms, abbreviations

Significant terms in the teaching text are indicated in italic and bold type (e.g. Zygote). Technical terms are indicated in italics (e.g. Chorda dorsalis). Commonly used abbreviations are "E" for "embryonic day", "S" for "stage" (e.g. S17), and "W" for "week".

Links

The underlined words in the text are links to anatomical structures in the atlas domain or in the teaching text (e.g. Fertilization, S11, Pronucleus-stage). Left-clicking opens a pop-up window, which you have to close in order to return to the main body of the text. Right-clicking on a link takes you directly to the corresponding structure in the atlas. From here, you can return to the main text by right-clicking on the left cursor icon.

Animations

Animations are indicated by the word "animation" and are underlined, for example: animation: intestine rotation. Click on the link to start the animation. The purpose of the animations is to illustrate rather than accurately represent the development sequence.
